Art and Creative Expression
The world of art encompasses a lot more than what we often first think, and the process of making something can look different depending on where we are. In these workshops we’ll meet with artists, creative designers, and possibly a few musicians around the globe. We’ll find out what inspires them and maybe even make our own projects too!
Global Art for Schools
How does it work?
Art Around the World workshops will introduce students to artists and/or musicians from various cultures and countries, working with a variety of media and styles. This might be organized as a one-time event, or as a series meeting with several different artists and regions, or it may take a focus on specific art forms, such as street art or found objects/recycled media. Art Around the World workshops can also be structured to incorporate history and social studies, community and urban development, foreign language studies, or global issues.
For each Art Around the World workshop, students (or teachers, or parents) will be sent a packet and list of simple tools and materials ahead of time so they can follow along step by step as the artist leads them through a small project. Alternatively, workshops can be organized in a show-and-tell format where students view a live demo of how the art is made, ask the artist questions to learn more, and then have the option to try a project on their own, off-screen.
Global Maker and Creator Workshops
Maker and Creator Workshops are designed to bring hands-on global learning to virtual education. In the current remote learning landscape, many students (and teachers and parents) are feeling fatigued by the accumulation of screen time. These workshops seek to engage other important skills and senses, encourage tinkering and tactile experimentation, and refresh creative energy — through connections with makers of all kinds. We hope these workshops can inspire students to create and share their own ideas, innovations, and works while finding inspiration around the globe.
